Reviving The Past

The Power of Conservation

Artefacts are more than just objects; they are vessels of history, culture, and stories. Every crack, stain, or fragment represents the passing of time and the potential loss of valuable heritage. Conservation, therefore, is crucial—it ensures that these objects continue to tell their stories, not only for us but for future generations.
This section highlights artefacts from the storage of the Captain Williamson Sangma Museum, donated as far back as 1976. Through dedicated conservation efforts, we have restored these items, which are vital to our cultural narrative. Some reflect lost craftsmanship, others carry religious significance, and many tell the story of the way of life of our people. They are irreplaceable pieces of our history, and their preservation is essential.
Through this exhibition, we urge the community to recognize the importance of conservation. It is not just about saving objects; it is about safeguarding the connections to our past that define who we are today. Conservation is a commitment to our heritage—a responsibility to protect the stories that shape our identity and ensure they endure for generations to come. By valuing conservation, we honour not only the objects themselves but the culture, traditions, and values they represent.
